From Drills to Decisions: A Constraints-Led Approach at Sharks Basketball Club

At Sharks Basketball Club, we’re committed to developing confident and capable players.

On Sunday 1 March, we’re hosting a session focussed on Constraints-Led Approach to Coaching Basketball, a modern coaching methodology increasingly used across junior and elite sport. This session will be run by Geelong United Coach and Player Development Manager, Simon Nicholson.
Rather than focusing on instructions and repetition, the constraints-led approach encourages:
Decision-making in game-like situations
Problem-solving and creativity
Better understanding of why decisions are made on court
This approach supports players to learn through the game itself — and works best when coaches, parents, and players share an understanding of the philosophy.
