Team selections for the Summer 2027 season are almost here! Below is everything players and families need to know — schedule, what to bring, what selectors look for, and what happens next.

New or Inactive Players — Register Before You Attend
If you're new to the club, or haven't played with Sharks recently, please complete our short registration form before attending team selections. This helps our coordinators know who to expect on the day and makes sure everyone is accounted for.
Once you've submitted the form, come along to the session for your age group below — no basketball experience required!
Why We Run Selections
Selections help ensure players are placed in teams where they can develop, contribute and compete at the right level. At Sharks, our aim is to:
Provide players with appropriate challenge and development opportunities
Build balanced teams across divisions
Ensure players are competing at a level that supports both confidence and growth
For many players, the best development happens when they are playing competitive games where they can actively contribute and continue to improve their skills.

Schedule Notes
Sessions are scheduled to avoid clashes with representative training. Due to this season's age-group changes, U14s cannot clash with either U12s or U14s.
The second U12 Boys session (30 August) is by invitation only.
U8 and U10 Boys and Girls sessions are come and try sessions — all welcome!
Where possible, players should wear a reversible Sharks singlet. If you don't have one, a reversible singlet of any kind is fine.
What Selectors Look For
During selections, players will take part in skills activities and game play, allowing selectors to assess players across a range of areas including:
Basketball IQ & decision making – reading the play and making good choices
Ability to compete at the level – effort, resilience, and pace of play
Defensive effort & intensity – positioning, pressure, and commitment
Teamwork & coachability – communication, attitude, and responsiveness to feedback
What Happens Next
As outlined in our Summer 2027 season overview, registrations open mid-August and close 1 September.
Once selections and registrations are finalised:
Teams will be formed and confirmed by coordinators
Teams will be announced on the Sharks Basketball Club website
Team communication channels will be set up by Team Managers
Training schedules and venues will be confirmed
We look forward to seeing everyone out on the court!
FAQs
Q: I've never played basketball before — should I still attend? Yes! Selections are for everyone, including complete beginners. There are always other beginners in the same boat, and our coaches and selectors are there to help you learn as you go.
Q: What should I bring? Comfortable basketball shoes, water, and a reversible Sharks singlet if you have one (a reversible singlet of any kind is fine if not).
Q: Do I need to attend every session for my age group? Where an age group has two dates, try to attend both if you can — it gives selectors the best picture of your play. If you can only make one, let your coordinator know in advance.
Q: What if I can't make either date for my age group? Email us as soon as possible to discuss options -
For U14, U16 and U18 Boys email geelongsharks.juniors@gmail.com
For all other age groups email geelongsharks@gmail.com
Q: Do I need to register before attending? Registrations open mid-August and close 1 September — you can attend selections while your registration is being finalised, but you'll need to register to be placed in a team. If you have never played for Sharks (or basketball at all) or are returning after break - let us know you will be attending by completing this form Team Selection Registration
Q: Will teams be confirmed on the day? No — teams are formed and confirmed by coordinators after all sessions and registrations close, then announced on the website.
