Team Selections – Winter 2026

Sharks Basketball Club will be holding team selections for the following boys age groups ahead of the Winter 2026 season.

Selections will apply to:

U14 Boys (U14B) – Sunday 15 March 2026

U12 Boys (U12B) – Sunday 22 March 2026

Selections will be by invitation. Invitations will be extended to:

• Current Sharks players competing in U12B Monday and Saturday D1 or U14B Division 1–5

• Selected players identified by coaches and coordinators

• Players who have previously expressed interest in competing at this level

If your child would like to be considered for selection and is not currently playing U12B Monday or U14B Division 1–5 for Sharks, you may nominate to attend by emailing: geelongsharks@gmail.com

Please include:

• Player name

• Date of birth

• Current team / competition

• Playing position (if known)

Selection session details (including time and venue) will be provided directly to invited families.

Why We Run Selections

Selections help ensure players are placed in teams where they can develop, contribute and compete at the right level. At Sharks, our aim is to:

• Provide players with appropriate challenge and development opportunities

• Build balanced teams across divisions

• Ensure players are competing at a level that supports both confidence and growth

For many players, the best development happens when they are playing competitive games where they can actively contribute and continue to improve their skills.

What Selectors Look For

During selections, players will participate in skills activities and game play, allowing selectors to assess players across a range of areas including:

• Basketball IQ and decision making

• Ability to compete at the level

• Skill execution

• Defensive effort and intensity

• Teamwork and coachability

Team balance and positional needs will also be considered when finalising teams.

Players who attend selections but are not successful in gaining a place in these teams will still be placed in a Sharks team. Once registered for the Winter season, they will automatically be allocated to an appropriate lower grade team.

Other Age Groups

For most other age groups, teams will remain largely unchanged, with only minor adjustments made by coordinators in consultation with coaches where required.

If your child would like to be considered for the 1st or 2nd team in other age groups, please let us know via email:geelongsharks@gmail.com

Otherwise, teams will be graded and placed based on registration numbers and previous season feedback.

What Happens Next

As outlined in our Winter 2026 season overview, registrations open during late February and continue through March.

Once selections and registrations are finalised:

• Teams will be formed and confirmed by coordinators

• Teams will be announced on the Sharks Basketball Club website.

• Team communication channels will be set up by Team Managers

• Training schedules and venues will be confirmed

We encourage families to register asap to ensure your child is placed in the right team for them.
