At Sharks Basketball Club, we’re on a mission to grow women’s participation – on the court as players, and on the sidelines as coaches. Whether you’re a returning player, a local newcomer, or a mum cheering on your child, there’s a place for you.

Australian research consistently highlights the importance of women staying active in team sports. According to a study by the Australian Sports Commission, women who participate in team sports experience greater physical and mental health, stronger social connections, and higher confidence levels compared with women who don’t engage in regular sport. Team sports aren’t just games – they’re empowering communities where women lead, inspire, and thrive.
Play with Sharks – Monday and Tuesday Nights
With 10 senior women’s teams across Monday and Tuesday nights, we cater to all skill and fitness levels. Whether you’re new to basketball, returning after a break, or just looking for some fun, Sharks has a team for you.
We’re also introducing a reformatted Sunday training session – late afternoon (likely starting around 4pm). This session focuses on social games and scrimmages, giving players an extra game each week and a fun, relaxed way to improve skills. It’s included in your Sharks membership, making it the perfect opportunity to return to basketball after any break – whether it’s been 1 year or 20!
Step Up as a Coach
Coaching is another fantastic way to get involved. Michelle Dodd, a current Division 1 player has coached our U12 girls team for the past two seasons, sharing her experience, passion, and guidance.
“Coaching at Sharks has been one of the most rewarding experiences – seeing the girls develop skills, confidence, and a love for the game is incredibly satisfying. I encourage any player or parent to give coaching a go; the impact you make goes beyond the court.”
This season, we have four girls’ teams looking for coaches – U10, 2 x U14, and U19. Coaching at Sharks is supported through accredited pathways, mentorship from our head coach, and a club-wide program approach to training.

Why Sharks?
Sharks Basketball Club is growing fast. With record numbers coming from local schools – St Patrick’s, Kardinia, Manifold Heights, Ashby, and Holy Spirit – we’re on track to enter 120+ teams this season. Our welcoming volunteer committee works tirelessly to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate and reach their potential.
We’re committed to high coaching standards, strong leadership, and a program-based approach to training. Whether playing, coaching, or volunteering, Sharks offers a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment for women to thrive in basketball.
