Sharks Champ Night Wrap

How good was Tuesday? More than 100 members from #Sharknation down to support our Champ Womens and Mens teams.

Better crowd than at a lot of rep games. Great job to all that came down and made it a night to remember. Those pizzas from the Golden Goose went down alright too!

Thanks to all the people that helped organise the night too. Without you these things can’t happen.

How about some highlights from the night?

All those kids making noise for both teams!

Filling the bleachers with Sharksnation.

Our womens team showing why they are number one in the competition, with great teamwork, passing and scoring all night.

Alex Duck controlling the tempo, delivering dime after dime.

Coutney Hollowood with lightning drives breaking open their defense. Georgia managing to beat Try Boys by 2 points on her own, while still delivering some really nice passes of her own, 2 of our home grown junior girls playing at this level and doing really well.

Our girls were ready to play from the start, working hard on defense all night, making the opposition shoot challenged shots all night, and with deflections and strong rebounding, our girls kept igniting the fast break much to everyones delight on the sidelines.

Our girls finished with Georgia Varley scoring 43, with Cortney Hollowood 15. Alex Duck 12, and Emma Jarvis 12. Sharks won 97-41, Well played girls!

Our mens team showing why we think all our hardwork and focus on culture and teamwork is paying off. If it wasnt for an ex-NBL player on the opposition, this could have been a blow out like the first game. With Yusuf Qaafow in the mix, he hit tough shot after tough shot, but our boys didn’t hang their heads.

Second gamer Mason was trusted with guarding the hot shooting opponent when Scotty had to rest. Mason highlighted why he had earnt his first call up this season, continually forcing contested shots, boxing out, and not giving his opponent a seconds rest. In the second half Mason managed to get loose for a couple of easier baskets too!

What about our two rookies, Malik and Devante? Both have been plying their trade working towards our champs team. Devante down low defending much bigger players, and Malik the same. No complaints, just doing their jobs with effort. Both have slotted in replacing more experienced players in an outstanding manner. Their play just shows we have a lot to look forward to, with Malik showing the moment isn’t too big for him, breaking their backs late with two huge treys.

What a masterstroke by Juzzy changing the defense at the half to restrict their biggest threat. Knowing it would leave gaps, Scotty, Mason, Brad, Elvis and Locky worked even harder on the boards to stop their guards sneaking in for cheeky baskets.

Our mens team stayed calm under pressure, and didnt get caught up in the niggle that was there late, to come out victors in a tight contest.

It was great to have 3 juniors on the bench hi fiving all the players too.

Something thats not on the scoreboard or that would be highlighted is guys that have lost their place in our champs team recently were there to support the squad.

Our boys scoring looked something like this. Locky Wilson 25, Scott McCarthy 23, rookie sensation Malik Davis 19, Brad Jones 7, Devante Francis 7

Our boys got home 92-84 in a tough come from behind game.

Awesome job on the night fellas.

Awesome for #sharknation.
