Sharks Basketball Club is excited to announce its Girls First Team Coaches for the upcoming Summer 2024/25 season. These coaches will lead their respective teams and mentor other coaches within their age groups, ensuring consistent development across the club.
U19 Girls: Craig Jarvis
Craig Jarvis, the current head coach of Surfcoast Chargers Youth League Women, will lead the U19 Girls. With nearly 35 years of coaching experience, including roles at Kilsyth, Craigieburn, Geelong, and Surfcoast, Jarvis is well-equipped to elevate the team. “I’m thrilled to be returning to Sharks in a coaching capacity,” said Jarvis. “I’ve seen firsthand the potential in our junior players, and I’m excited to help them reach their full potential.” Jarvis has long been connected with the Sharks Basketball Club, previously serving at the Club’s vice president for 10 years.
U16 Girls: Courtney Burke
Courtney Burke will take the reins of the U16 Girls team. Burke has an impressive background in coaching, having previously been involved in Keilor’s VJBL program and serving as an assistant coach for the Youth League Women’s team. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and enthusiasm to the U16 Girls this season,” said Burke. “This age group is a crucial stage in their development, and I’m committed to helping them refine their skills and build confidence on and off the court.”
U14 Girls: Cortney Hollowood
Cortney Hollowood, currently playing for Surfcoast Chargers in the Big V, will lead the U14 Girls. Hollywood, a former Lady Supercats' captain for three years and a seven-year SEABL player, brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. “I’m incredibly excited to give back to junior sport and help shape the next generation of female players. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching these young athletes grow both on and off the court,” Hollowood shared.
U12 Girls: Nate Moore
Nate Moore returns for his fourth season as the U12 Girls coach. A seasoned player with Geelong, Moore captained the Youth League Men for three years. His continued leadership and familiarity with the team will provide a strong foundation for the U12 Girls as they embark on their new season. “Coaching the U12 Girls has been incredibly rewarding,” Moore said. “I’m excited to continue working with this talented group and to see how much they can achieve this season. It’s all about fostering a love for the game and building their confidence in their abilities.”
U10 Girls: Amy Clarke
Amy Clarke, with over 20 years of experience in basketball, will coach the U10 Girls. Clarke has a deep passion for creating inclusive and fun programs that encourage female participation in the sport. “Getting young girls involved in basketball is not just about teaching them the game; it’s about building their confidence, teamwork skills, and love for being active,” Clarke said. Her focus this season will be to identify and support new volunteers joining the club as coaches in the U10 division. Clarke is excited to return to this age group, having coached the very first Sharks U10 Girls team 11 years ago.
U8 Girls: Brant Lowry
Brant Lowry, the current U14 Girls coach for Geelong United, will coach the U8 Girls. Lowry brings 20 years of coaching experience to the table, including a notable tenure at Werribee, where he led an under-14 girls team to the National Club Championships. His extensive experience and success in developing young talent will be a significant asset to the youngest players in the Sharks program.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the U8 Girls,” Lowry said. “At this age, it’s all about fostering a love for the game and making sure the girls have fun while learning the fundamentals. It’s a privilege to be part of their basketball journey from the very beginning.”
The Sharks Basketball Club is excited to see the impact these coaches will have on their teams and the broader club community. The club is committed to fostering a positive and supportive environment for all players, with these talented coaches leading the way.
