We’re excited to announce the teams for the upcoming Sharks Basketball season! It’s been a huge job behind the scenes, and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience as we worked through the selection process.
You can now find the team lists posted on our website. If your child’s name is not on a team list, please email us as soon as possible at geelongsharks@gmail.com so we can follow up promptly.
Over 90 Junior Teams – Our Biggest Season Yet!
This year, we’re proud to be fielding over 90 junior teams across all age groups – our biggest and strongest group yet! This incredible growth is a testament to the thriving Sharks community and the passion our players and families bring to the club each season.
With that growth comes a lot of behind-the-scenes coordination, and we appreciate your understanding as we continue to refine teams during the grading rounds.
A Few Notes About Team Selection
As always, team selection is a careful process that takes into account a range of factors. Higher-graded teams are selected based on ability and team balance, while in other teams we have done our best to consider friend requests and ensure everyone has a fun, supportive playing environment.
Please remember: these teams are subject to change as we go through the grading rounds and continue to observe players. Our aim is always to ensure each player is placed in a team where they can grow, feel confident, and contribute.
Looking Ahead to a Big Season!
We can’t wait to get started. This season, under the guidance of our Head Coach, we’re rolling out the Sharks Skills Matrix—a new framework to help guide player development across every age group.
There’ll be more program-level coaching, better alignment across teams, and a greater focus on skill-building and game sense. Most importantly, we’re continuing to strengthen the connected community culture that makes being part of Sharks so special.
Uniforms – New Players, Please Read!
If you’re new to Sharks and haven’t yet ordered your uniform, please do this ASAP. Uniforms can take up to 6 weeks to arrive, and we only have limited loan stock available.
Can You Help? Key Volunteer Roles Available
Each team needs three key volunteers to run smoothly:
Coach
Assistant Coach
Team Manager
Some teams are still looking for people in these roles. Please consider whether you can help out—sharing the load between three people means it’s manageable and flexible if someone can’t make it one week.
Teams with 6 Players – Room for More!
A few teams currently have only six players. Ideally, we’re looking to boost these to 7–8 per team. If you know someone interested in joining Sharks, encourage them to get in touch—we’d love to welcome more players!
What’s Next?
Your Team Manager will be in touch in the next week to invite you to join Heja, our team communication app. This will be your go-to for all info around games, training, and team updates.
Let’s make this a fantastic season of development, fun, and Sharks spirit!
Go Sharks!
